EUROPEAN transport group Arriva has been added to the shortlist bidding for control of the Caledonian Sleeper franchise connecting Edinburgh to London.
The firm, which is Deutsche Bahn’s division for passenger transport services outside of Germany, submitted an expression of interest for the franchise in April.
Transport Scotland confirmed the European company had made a shortlist that includes FirstGroup and Serco. The winner will be announced in the summer next year. Bob Holland, UK managing director for Arriva, said: “We will use our expertise operating CrossCountry – the UK’s most extensive rail franchise – and the DB City Night Line sleeper network to develop a bid that helps meet the aspirations of Transport Scotland and provides high quality services for passengers.
“The creation of a new franchise specifically for this route will help ensure a renewed focus on this important link between Scotland and London.”
