Airport emergency stood down after jet fire fears

A FULL emergency was declared at Edinburgh Airport today over fears that a private jet had caught fire.

Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service and airport emergency staff rushed to the Airbus 130 after a crew member thought they smelled smoke in a cabin of the plane.

But it was soon confirmed that there was no fire and the emergency services were stood down.

The fire service were called to the scene at around noon, as the plane was taxiing along the runway.

Only crew members were on board the plane at the time that the alarm was raised.

A spokesman for Edinburgh Airport said: “Crew on private aircraft were alerted by the smell of smoke in their cabin. A full emergency was called and stood down soon after airport fire fighters attended and no smoke was found.”
