Aftershave ‘grenade’ keeps man detained in Edinburgh Airport for 45 minutes

An airline passenger was questioned for 45 minutes by Edinburgh Airport security staff – because he had a bottle of aftershave shaped like a hand grenade in his luggage.

Jimmy Ho, 25, was surrounded by police after the suspicious outline of a grenade was spotted when his bag went through an X-ray machine.

The insurance worker, travelling to Heathrow after a break in the Capital, was then asked why he had a hand grenade in his luggage.

Mr Ho, of Ipswich, Suffolk, was only allowed to board his flight on Saturday night after the bottle was taken away for testing and was found to contain only aftershave.

Mr Ho said: “I think the design of the bottle is really bad.”

An airport spokesperson said security staff had followed correct procedure.
