A82 closed to traffic after six-wheeled lorry destroyed by fire

ONE of the main roads in the Highlands was closed to traffic today after a six-wheeled lorry was destroyed by fire on the busy route.

Traffic was diverted off the A82 between Spean Bridge and Fort William following the blaze a a mile north of Torlundy. The driver of the lorry was uninjured in the fire.

A spokesman for Northern Constabulary said “The incident was reported at around 6am this morning. The six wheeled lorry has been destroyed, but the driver is not injured.

“Traffic is being diverted northbound via the Camesky/Brackletter road and southbound via the Gairlochy/Banavie road. HGVs are not being permitted to take the diversionary routes at this time The road has been damaged and Tranbserv will be assessing the extent of that damage.”

The spokesman added: “A Stagecoach bus with 22 people on board took one of the diversionary routes and became stuck in a ditch at Torcastle. All 22 people are now off the bus and are uninjured.”
