Tramworks dig up shell casing at airport
BOMB disposal experts were called to Edinburgh airport yesterday after a shell casing was dug up yards from the terminal during tram line construction.
Police said a disposal team removed the device and carried out a controlled explosion. The incident at about 10am did not affect flights and the terminal was not evacuated.
The airport is a former military airfield and unexploded bombs in the vicinity are a known hazard for the tram developers, TIE. However, the casing is not believed to have included explosive material.
