Trams task force for small traders

A NEW task force has been set up to address business concerns about the introduction of trams in Edinburgh.

Transport chiefs are prepared for a flood of compensation claims from shops and businesses which face months of disruption when the multi-million pound system gets under way.

But bosses at TIE - the council’s arms-length transport company - have now set up a liaison group to discuss concerns with small traders on Leith Walk and Constitution Street.

Chief executive Michael Howell said: "The introduction of modern trams is of particular interest to small businesses, which is why we are facilitating this group.

"The introduction of trams does improve business and the general economy of an area. These benefits are usually seen once the trams start running."
