Tram chief's pay-off kept secret until next year

THE details of money paid to the former chief executive of the tram project will not be published until next year, it has emerged.

Tram firm TIE said details of Richard Jeffrey's severance package would be included in the council's annual accounts, which will be published in 2012.

The council-owned company said it was not right to release details now because Mr Jeffrey needed "space and time to consider his future personal employment options".

Mr Jeffrey stepped down after a two-year tenure as chief executive of TIE in May.

The Evening News asked for details of Mr Jeffrey's pay-off last month, but was told it would need to submit a freedom of information request due to his "personal objection" to having the figures revealed.

In response to this FOI request, TIE today said the information would be included in the city council's accounts.
