Traffic held up as lights fail in city centre
MOTORISTS faced delays when three sets of traffic lights crucial to city centre traffic flow broke down.
It was feared that the faulty lights, which went down this morning, could lead to traffic chaos in the heart of the Capital, although police called traffic wardens in to deal with the problem.
The lights which were out were at the corner of Lothian Road and Princes Street, the junction of Lothian Road and Shandwick Place and a set of lights at nearby Queensferry Street.
Transport in that area is already under pressure thanks to diversions caused by tram works along Princes Street, meaning cars have to be redirected around Charlotte Square and into the New Town.
A spokesman for Lothian and Borders police said this morning that measures had been taken to ease the problem.
He said: "It does just seems to be one area, but all the lights are our there. Wardens are in place to direct traffic."
It is not known exactly what time the lights failed at, although it caused problems for even the earliest of morning traffic.
