Tourists fancy Capital Valentine
EDINBURGH is predicted to benefit from an influx of credit crunch Valentines according to new research.
An analysis of nearly 4000 Valentine's bookings made by couples in the UK shows that numbers have rocketed for domestic breaks as people look to reduce costs.
The Co-operative Travel reports a 3000 per cent increase in bookings to Edinburgh this weekend, compared to Valentine's weekend last year. Edinburgh also comes out on top in a poll to find the most romantic destinations. The city is named as the UK's most popular place for a romantic break.
Trevor Davis, head of retail distribution at the Co-operative Travel, said: "As with most aspects of life, Valentine's Day looks like it will be affected by the economic situation and people will need to be more realistic in what they can expect from their partner in terms of grand romantic gestures."
