Totalitarian folly
Pope Benedict XVI's call for "a true world political authority that can manage the global economy" (your report, 8 July) is precisely what is not needed to "ensure world peace and bring about food security for the poor".
Any attempt at worldwide government is totalitarian and will lead to war and starvation, as previous omnipotent government programmes have done.
What is required for world peace is world freedom and limited government, with the recognition that man is an end in himself and has the right to live his life as he sees fit, neither sacrificing himself to others nor sacrificing others to himself.
