Tory hits out after strategy omits bridge

THE Scottish Executive's new national transport strategy has come under fire for making no mention of a new Forth Road Bridge.

Tory Transport spokesman David Davidson MSP criticised the strategy, which was published yesterday, for the omission of "Scotland's number one transport need".

Mr Davidson added: "That alone is reason enough to seriously question this document, which at times amounts to little more than a wish-list of future aspirations, and lacks the real level of detail needed.

"The omission lays bare Labour and the Lib Dems' pretence about building a new bridge."

Mr Davidson also said he welcomed the studies into a high speed rail link between Scotland and London, and the efforts to shift freight on to the railways.

But he added: "With so many major transport projects already in the pipeline, the Executive must make clear which projects it deems to have the highest priority - something it has consistently failed to do."
