Tories critical over delays to Equitable Life compensation
THE government has been accused of wanting to "block, frustrate and delay" the fight for justice by policyholders hit by the near collapse of Equitable Life.
The Tories said thousands of people were still no nearer to receiving any kind of compensation nine years after they saw the value of their investments slashed.
They demanded the compensation process be speeded up, pointing out that 30,000 had already died waiting for a resolution to the saga.
Shadow Treasury minister Mark Hoban pledged that if elected, his party would "sort out the mess that this government have left behind".
But he was accused of making "electoral noise" by senior Labour MP Tony Wright for Cannock Chase, who suggested the Tories did not want to commit to paying the estimated 4 billion compensation pay-out.
