Top al-Qaeda figure dead, says minister

Pakistan's interior minister said yesterday that he was sure senior al-Qaeda operative Ilyas Kashmiri had died in a US drone strike near the Afghan border.

"All ground intelligence shows that he is dead. There is a 98 per cent chance he is dead," said Rehman Malik.

Kashmiri has been linked to attacks including the 2008 rampage through Mumbai which killed 166 people.
