Top acts named for T in the Park festival
KINGS of Leon, Snow Patrol and Katy Perry were last night named as the first three acts confirmed for this year's T in the Park festival.
This will be the third time in a row the US indie rockers Kings of Leon have performed at T in the Park, which is now in its 16th year.
Scots rockers Snow Patrol last appeared on the main stage in 2007.
Katy Perry came to prominence last year on the back of her single I Kissed a Girl, which became a worldwide hit.
The names were released ahead of the official line-up announcement next month by the organisers, DF Concerts, because of rumours that appeared on the internet.
Last month, they were forced to issue an official denial that the veteran Australian rockers AC/DC would be headlining the festival, to save fans of the group from buying tickets ahead of the official line-up being announced, only to be disappointed. Last year saw such big names as REM, Amy Winehouse, the Verve and the Fratellis play before 80,000 people over three days at Balado Park, near Kinross.
The event was marred after a 22-year-old festival-goer was seriously injured in a stabbing incident in the camping area following an argument.
The festival also suffered its first fatality, when a man was found dead in his tent, having died from an asthma-related condition.
T in the Park 2009 will take place on 10-12 July.
