Time to end sanctions, says China

China's foreign minister, Yang Jiechi, yesterday urged an end to western sanctions on Zimbabwe during a visit authorities hope will unlock billions of dollars of investment.

Mr Yang, who arrived three days after ZANU-PF youths went on a looting spree in protest at Chinese and foreign businesses in Harare, said: "We believe there should be lifting of sanctions by some countries. All nations should respect each other's sovereignty."

China's economic development minister has hinted that China is ready to invest $10 billion in Zimbabwe, mainly in the mining sector.
