Three species that landed MP in hot water
WILD GURNARD THE gurnard is not an attractive fish - in fact, it used to be thrown back by fishermen. A white fish, usually found in the Atlantic, it was described by restaurant reviewer AA Gill as "the Amy Winehouse of battered fish" because it provided "a sonorous bluesy mouthful".
MEGRIM SOLE
A DEEPWATER flatfish, the megrim sole is fairly common in waters around Cornwall and in the Irish Sea, but can also occasionally be found off Scottish coasts. It is already popular in France, but most megrim sole caught goes to Spain, where it is called "gallos".
DAB
ANOTHER white fish, the dab has a similar appearance to both the plaice and the flounder, with both of its eyes on the right-hand side of its body. It is native to shallow seas around Northern Europe and is most common in the North Sea.
