Steven Brown was found dead in 1999

THREE men charged with murdering father-of-three Steven Brown 14 years ago – but released days later due to a lack of evidence – have been questioned again by detectives.

The trio are understood to have been interviewed as part of the re-investigation into the murder of Steven Brown, who was found lying dead in a field near Elphinstone, Tranent, on February 21, 1999.

The 35-year-old, of Kerry Road, Tranent, had been beaten and stabbed several times and no one has ever been prosecuted.

Police who launched a new probe into the unsolved killing today acknowledged that they had “spoken to individuals who were part of the original investigation”.
