IF YOUR smartphone selection has grown a little stale, then check out these three new mobile applications

THE NIGHT SKY

There was a time when star-mapping was a mystical science, left to likes of Sir Patrick Moore with his reading monocle and big telescope. But The Night Sky brings the possibility of space exploration to your handheld device. Simply open the app and point your camera skywards (day or night) to see a live 3D map of the constellations, complete with stunning illustrations and lots of handy information for every keen astronomer.

PAPER

There are a number of note-taking smartphone apps available already, but Paper may just be the most complete. The app lets you collate a mixture of doodles, notes, photos and checklists on the go - all easy to organise and simple to sort. Previously only available on the iPad, Paper has been scaled down for the iPhone, which seems like a more natural home for it.
