Thousands back Chavez plan
TENS of thousands of Venezuelans took to the streets of Caracas on Thursday in support of a referendum due to be held tomorrow to abolish fixed terms of presidential office.
A Yes vote would be the only way for Hugo Chavez to complete what he calls a socialist revolution. However, opponents say that Mr Chavez has illegally diverted huge amounts of government resources into the campaign.
The referendum would remove all term limits for elected officials. However, polls indicate that the vote will be close.
