Thieves take eye machine from hospital
A HIGH-TECH machine that examines patients' eyes by ultrasound has been stolen from a Lothians hospital.
The 10,000 ophthalmic ultrasound system was stolen from St John's Hospital in Livingston between Monday night and Tuesday morning.
Health chiefs have reassured patients that there are two other machines that can cope with the capacity, meaning there should be no delays in treatment.
Sandra Mair, director of operations for head and neck services at NHS Lothian, said:
"The two remaining machines are being used flexibly to ensure there is no disruption to patients.
"Police are currently investigating the theft."
Anyone who has any information is asked to contact Livingston Police Station on 01506 431200, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
