Theatre review: A Tribute - Gielgud's Ages of Man
** LAUGHING HORSE @ THE OUTHOUSE (VENUE 99)
THERE'S a certain kind of person who's going to be attracted by the prospect of a two-hour, one-man show structured around a compilation of Shakespeare's sonnets. However, this one is so well performed by excellent George Innes that even if doesn't sound like your bag, you might be pleasantly surprised.
Innes uses the work of the bard to chart the life of renowned Shakespearean actor John Gielgud, pairing it with biographical information and letters. Some parts connect better than others and the piece could do with being a lot shorter, but it's surprisingly engaging.
