The wives detail their ordeal at hands of Tobin

TWO of Peter Tobin's ex-wives yesterday spoke of the hell he put them through during their marriages.

Tobin's first wife, Margaret Mackintosh, 56, last night greeted news of his latest conviction saying: "That is really good. Excellent. I am delighted.

"Although there is not much else that can be done to him, given his previous conviction – for killing Angelika Kluk – he will be behind bars for the rest of his life. That will be a great comfort to Vicky Hamilton's family."

Ms Mackintosh, now living in Ross-shire, near Dingwall, was 17 when she married Tobin in Brighton in 1969, and has previously told how she still bears the scars of a knife attack he made on her.

She has said: "He raped me three or four times, enjoying my fear. When I put up a fight, I got a knife in my side. He left me to die on the bed.

"Luckily, the man (living] underneath saw the blood coming through the ceiling and got me to hospital."

Tobin's second wife, Sylvia, who wants to keep her surname secret, branded him "pure evil, absolute evil".

She married him in 1973 and eventually fled their Brighton home in fear for her life after the death of their second child, Clare, at two days old. She said she only feels safe to visit her daughter's grave now that he is behind bars.

She said: "I can remember one day being by the window with a curtain round me.

"I don't know how I got there, but he must have knocked me across the room. He had this knife; threatened me with this knife.

"At one point he said, 'I'm going to kill you'. He's just pure evil, absolute evil."
