The Weekender
YOUR definitive guide to the best of the weekend...
FILM
Leonardo DiCaprio has been away from the cinema screen for some time now, busy encouraging the world to take a more environmentally friendly approach to its future.
In Ridley Scott's Body Of Lies, however, he returns alongside Russell Crowe as a CIA agent on the ground in Iraq and attempting to catch terrorists with the help of Crowe's technologically assisted agent on the other side of the world. As visually spectacular as you would expect from the Blade Runner director, the view so far seems to be that the drama doesn't quite live up to the direction, but there's little denying that the two leads carry their weight in a film that sinks or swims on its portrayal of events appearing on our news channels every day.

Set during the 1982 war in Lebanon, Waltz With Bashir is an impressive new animation which teams graphic-comic visuals with a deeply harrowing tale of a soldier's lack of memory of the extreme events he witnessed as a soldier in the Israeli Army mission in Lebanon, during which Palestinian refugees were massacred.
The quiet and simplistic style of animation lends itself to the soldier's journey of remembrance.
