The Outlook's dim for council's 'Pravda'
USE of the taxpayer-funded newspaper Outlook for information about the city council is "very limited", consultants have told city chiefs.
A report by the Research Resource agency has shown the Evening News was cited as "the main, if not only, source of information" about local services by individuals across a series of focus groups set up to discuss the findings of the Edinburgh People's Survey.
In contrast, the agency said that use of direct sources of information, either through the controversial Outlook or community council sources, was "very limited, with only a handful of participants mentioning these as a source of information".
The comments will add weight to calls for Outlook, the freesheet that costs the council about 200,000 a year to produce and distribute, to be scrapped.
Opposition councillors have dubbed it a "propaganda sheet" and an "Edinburgh Pravda" because of the amount of positive stories about the council it contains.
