President Barack Obama has said the US is prepared to take targeted military action in Iraq if it would help fight a growing threat from extremist militants.

Meanwhile, Security Minister James Brokenshire has said terrorists from or connected to the conflicts in Syria and Iraq will pose a threat to the UK for the foreseeable future.

Laying a motion before the Commons to add five Syria-linked terror groups to the list of banned organisations in the UK, Mr Brokenshire said proscription sends a “strong message” that terrorism is not tolerated.
