Commons: ‘Let’s push for unbeaten season’

CELTIC’S Kris Commons has called on his team-mates to focus their attention on finishing the Premier League season unbeaten.

Commons told the Sun: “We want to break records. We want to do it with clean sheets and to win a record number of games on the bounce.

“We’re striving for greatness in the league now. You never stop doing that… it’d be a remarkable achievement, but we have a lot of work to do.” (Sun)

Fenlon backs Griffiths for Celtic success

PAT Fenlon, Leigh Griffiths’ manager during his time at Hibernian, has backed the Scotland striker to make the most of his move to Celtic.

Fenlon told the Express: “Leigh’s a smashing lad and a terrific player who will only get better. Of course there were times when I had him at Hibs that he was naive and stupid, but he was young.”

Fenlon added: “I think he has learned and is starting to settle down, and I honestly think the move to Celtic is a brilliant one for him.” (Express)

Kilmarnock chairman ‘won’t sell to fans’

MICHAEL Johnston has told Kilmarnock fans that he won’t sell shares to the club’s fans - but that he will stand down if it appeases the fans.

Johnston said: “What I’m after is new investment and there are two six-figure investors lined up.

“I’m looking for people who want to help Killie by buying new shares that would merit them taking a seat on the board. The way forward is not going to be achieved by me simply selling my shares.” (Record)

Sturrock calls for 1984 Euro medals

FORMER Dundee United player and manager Paul Sturrock is set to write to UEFA chief Michel Platini calling for Dundee United to be instated as runners-up in the 1984 European Cup.

United lost 3-2 to Roma in the semi-finals, but the Italian club’s director Riccardo Viola recently admitted that his father Dino had bribed the referee in the second leg in order to secure passage to the final.

Sturrock said: “I think it’s appropriate that history is cleaned. There is a stain on the UEFA flag at this minute in time because of that game. I hope (Platini) will have a think about things and look into it.” (Mail)

Stenny’s Gemmell to learn McCoist punishment

JOHN Gemmell will find out today whether he will face a ban for Twitter comments about Rangers manager Ally McCoist.

The Stenhousemuir striker called McCoist a “p***k” in an outburst following the Rangers boss’ complaints about his side’s fixture list.

The case will be heard by the SPFL disciplinary panel later today. (Record)

Reynolds: ‘Dons can back up Cup win’

MARK Reynolds believes his Aberdeen side can back up their victory over Celtic in the Scottish cup, and avoid a predicted collapse in the latter stages of the season.

The stopper said: “The naysayers are still there waiting for us to fall down but we aim to postpone that for as long as possible.

“We have shown there is now a new Aberdeen. Where we are now is where we want to be.” (Sun)
