Have your say

I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree with the sentiments expressed by Brian Wilson concerning the need for the Northern and Western Isles to be given a greater say in their own affairs (your report, 18 July).

His criticism of the masking of the islands’ special needs by using statistics covering the whole of the Highlands, the centralisation of functions in Edinburgh and the siphoning off of seabed revenues by the Crown Estate are examples of what is wrong with the current set-up.

One thing puzzles me, however: is this the same Brian Wilson who is so vociferous in his opposition to the devolution of power from Westminster to Holyrood? Do not the same arguments that he uses for the islands hold good in the wider context?
