Tennant could 'go on forever' as Doctor Who says show's chief

DAVID TENNANT could continue to play Doctor Who until he is a pensioner, according to the show's writer.

Russell T Davies, the show's outgoing boss, said the Bathgate-born star may "go on forever" – despite the fact Tennant himself has refused to talk about whether he would continue to play the role in its fifth series.

Davies said: "David may never leave, he could go on forever.

"I haven't talked to him about leaving.

"Maybe it will never happen. Maybe he'll be 70 and have to be taken off the set."

He added: "David has brought everything to Doctor Who."

Davies, whose book The Writer's Tale is just out, also revealed some details of the show's Christmas special.

He said: "It's called The Next Doctor and there is a major plot twist at the end. For the first time we have two men together as leads."

The episode features State of Play actor David Morrissey and Ballykissangel star Dervla Kirwan.

Davies, who is leaving the show to focus on new challenges, also added that he would consider doing a Doctor Who film.
