Ten Questions: Vic Galloway
VIC GALLOWAY, 35, is a broadcaster who is hosting this weekend's coverage of T In The Park for the BBC. He lives in Leith
What is your earliest memory of Edinburgh? I remember driving into the city from the Forth Road Bridge and being astonished by the huge buildings and epic architecture. We'd come over from St Andrews for a day out and it really was quite scary to a wee boy.
What are your memories of school? I wasn't a fan of school. I went to Loretto School in Musselburgh and found it quite restrictive for what I was growing into – music and acting. I met some great people there and had what you might call a "well-rounded education", but I think I was seen as a bit of a rebel. I was just trying to be me.
Where is your favourite place in Edinburgh and why? I love the architecture all over the city and don't find it as scary any more. I love Leith, the Links and the Shore area. I also enjoy wandering around the New Town, Stockbridge and the Royal Botanic Garden. It's a beautiful city.
What are the best things about Edinburgh? I like the relatively chilled-out atmosphere. After working like crazy in the world of music, mainly in Glasgow and London, it feels relaxing coming home to Edinburgh. It is small and most things are easily accessible on foot.
What would you change about the city? I would lower the cost of buying and renting property, especially for city centre music venues. Edinburgh could have a far more vibrant live music scene if young people had more help to put on events without huge overheads and people are being driven from their homes as prices are so high.
Describe a perfect Edinburgh day/night out. I'd enjoy a few cold beers sitting in The Meadows with friends before heading to Kebab Mahal in Nicolson Square for some quality food. I'd check out the Cameo or Filmhouse before finally hitting The Egg for dancing.
Which sports interest you? I like watching a bit of Wimbledon and international football and rugby. Personally, I go to the gym.
What was your most embarrassing moment? Being rude to someone at a wedding when I was trying to be funny. It still haunts me. The bride and groom don't really speak to me any more and I'm gutted.
What is your greatest achievement? It's being alive after all the crazy situations I've been in. Other than that, being friendly, honest and championing the underdog.
