Ten Questions: Musician Kim Edgar
Kim Edgar, 30, is a musician and songwriter from Leith, who is performing at the Ceilidh Culture music festival next month.
What is your earliest memory of Edinburgh? It was when my granny took me swimming in the sea at Portobello, and then we spent the rest of the day browsing in charity shops.
What are your memories of school? My best memories of St Margaret's in South Queensferry are of some inspirational teachers, including Mrs Munro, my P1/2 teacher who was full of energy and positivity, and Mrs Park, the best music teacher in the world, who got everyone excited about singing.
Where is your favourite place in Edinburgh and why? My favourite places are the two art galleries on The Mound. I've been spending time there since I was a teenager and love the peace, ideas and the history.
What are the best things about Edinburgh? The people. It's where my family and friends are, so I'd find it incredibly hard to leave.
What would you change about the city? I'd increase the amount of support for children in Edinburgh affected by poverty, neglect, addiction and abuse, and also support for their families. Also, I'd change the public transport system, and invest to make it quick, affordable, accessible and reliable.
Describe a perfect Edinburgh day/night out. On a sunny day, a walk along the Water of Leith, then up through the town to catch an art exhibition, and a picnic lunch in Princes Street Gardens, followed by some sunbathing or a game of Frisbee. Some time to read, then later a meal with family and friends, perhaps in Delmonica's at The Shore.
Which sports interest you? To watch, I have been enjoying football and support Boroughmuir Thistle Ladies development squad. In terms of taking part, I swim frequently and love to dance.
What was your most embarrassing moment? About 15 years ago, after walking to the west end of Princes Street, I discovered that the reason for the strange looks and beeps from cars I had been receiving was that my rucksack had slowly coaxed the back of my skirt up to my waist.
What is your greatest achievement? My greatest music achievement is my debut album, Butterflies and Broken Glass, which I'm really proud of.
Sum up Edinburgh in three words. History, beauty, home.
