Ten Questions: Maurice Plommer, general manager at Princes Street Suites, Edinburgh

Maurice Plommer, 42, is general manager at Princes Street Suites, Edinburgh. He lives in Uphall, West Lothian

What is your earliest memory of Edinburgh? Edinburgh Castle when I was five and looking down over the city just as the One o'Clock canon went off. It scared me silly!

What are your memories of school? One of my first memories was just before I moved to Canada. I was seven and I remember walking to St Sixtus in Glasgow, in the "fog", wearing my day-glo yellow school bag.

Where is your favourite place in Edinburgh and why? My favourite place has to be the top of Arthur's Seat and catching that breathtaking view over Edinburgh from the top.

What are the best things about Edinburgh? One would have to be its multiculturalism. When you walk down the street, there is always a different feel with the mixture of people visiting the city.

What would you change about the city? I don't actually think there is anything I would change. Edinburgh is a continually evolving city, which is one of things I love most about it.

Describe a perfect Edinburgh day/night out. A walk up Arthur's Seat with my family for a picnic, followed by a visit to Leith. In the evening I would go for a drink at one of the bars along George Street and then out to dinner.

Which sports interest you? My favourite sport would have to be American Football. I have been a die-hard Pittsburgh Steeler fan for over 25 years.

What was your most embarrassing moment? While packing for a flight, I was interrupted by a beaver running into my garden and realised the next day I hadn't taken suit trousers. I had to borrow a pair too big for me.

What is your greatest achievement? To date my greatest achievement would have to be moving to Scotland from Canada with my wife and two girls.

Sum up Edinburgh in three words. Multicultural, non-stop, excitement.
