Ten Questions: Gerry Burke
Gerry Burke, 40, runs his own interior design company Gerry Burke Interiors. He lives in Trinity.
What is your earliest memory of Edinburgh? Going to the Zoo on a school trip, I think I was eight.
What are your memories of school? I went to St Stephen's School in Clydebank and can remember sitting in the reading corner on a Friday afternoon reading Enid Blyton books.
Where is your favourite place in Edinburgh and why? The Royal Botanic Gardens – it's a truly amazing place with great views of the city, and the Queen Mother's memorial garden is also very special. Every season the gardens change and there is something different to see. I never tire of going there.
What are the best things about Edinburgh? You can walk about easily, great restaurants and bars and there is always something happening.
What would you change about the city? Princes street – need I say more?
Describe a perfect Edinburgh day/night out. Day – brunch with the morning papers in my favourite local deli, Porto and Fi, Newhaven Main St. Then I would go round all the little art galleries looking at all the fantastic art and paintings that Edinburgh has to offer. For the Night – Friday is my favourite day of the week, I go to Fishers on the shore – one of the best seafood restaurants in Edinburgh where I catch up with friends – a perfect start to the weekend.
Which sports interest you? I don't think so! But if I had to it would be formula 1 in Monaco – any car would do.
What was your most embarrassing moment? I was waving to my client while walking up her driveway, when I slipped on ice – one moment Hi! and the next Crunch! She took me to hospital to discover I had broken my wrist – you can still see the dent in my wrist.
What is your greatest achievement? Running my own company – I just love it. I started Gerry Burke Interiors 10 years ago from my private studio in Trinity, for me the best part is making things happen and getting a buzz out of the completion of the job. It is great to watch your ideas come to fruition.
