Ten Questions: Dr Biju Krishnan
DR BIJU KRISHNAN, 39, is co-founder and MD of Lubiju Dental Practice. He lives in Newhaven
What is your earliest memory of Edinburgh? Coming here as a student, my friend was studying medicine here and fell in love with the city.
What are your memories of school? School was interesting, Dens Road Primary then Morgan Academy in Dundee. Thoroughly enjoyed my time but was very much into sports rather than academia.
Where is your favourite place in Edinburgh and why? Arthur's Seat. I walk, and attempt to run around it regularly.
What are the best things about Edinburgh? The people, the food, the opportunities and now the dentistry!
What would you change about the city? The trams. Don't get me wrong, I think once the system is in place we'll look back and be glad that it's there, but at the moment it's nothing but an absolute nuisance.
Describe a perfect Edinburgh day/night out. Wake up early, run, have a champagne breakfast with my partner Deborah, walk around Arthur's Seat, east/west fusion massage at Lubiju, light tom yum soup for lunch at Dusit, take Deborah shopping in Harvey Nics. After that, perhaps some dinner at the Kitchin.
Which sports interest you? Squash, badminton, rugby, cricket - all to play not to watch, though.
What was your most embarrassing moment? One of my first clients in Edinburgh was a transsexual who had nearly completed all the work going from male to female. However they were still wearing a wig and while they were in for denture treatment, I kept knocking the wig about and messing it up – and every attempt I had at fixing it, just made it worse.
What is your greatest achievement? I think it's seeing the changes we can make to people's lives. Changing someone's teeth may seem like a small thing but it can genuinely transform a person's world – it can make them more confident, more attractive, have people interact with them more. It's also a source of pride for me that Lubiju also has its own dedicated massage and complementary therapy treatment room.
