Ten Questions: Suzie Gillespie, owner of men's hair salon The Players Lounge

Suzie Gillespie, 39, owns men's hair salon The Players Lounge

What is your earliest memory of Edinburgh? Climbing up Arthur's Seat. And when I say climb, I mean it. It didn't look too steep from the bottom but was quite a trek – worth it for the amazing views, though.

What are your memories of school? Lowgill Primary – a tiny school in the middle of nowhere. We were country kids and pretty free range and I loved every minute.

Where is your favourite place in Edinburgh and why? The west end of Rose Street where the salon is. It's like a village, all the traders know each other and there is a real sense of community.

What are the best things about Edinburgh? You can walk everywhere and everyone knows each other. It is also a stunning city, I cannot think of a city I love more than this one.

What would you change about the city? The roadworks.

Describe a perfect Edinburgh day/night out. A perfect day would start with a walk or run through Holyrood Park. Lunch would be at Gusto followed by an afternoon shopping at House of Fraser, Sam Thomas and Guilty. Evening would start with cocktails at Sygn Bar followed by dinner at the Dusit on Thistle Street. If I still have some energy left and if I haven't eaten too much, I might be tempted by a bit of a dance.

Which sports interest you? I love running, cycling and horse riding. There is so much to do in East Lothian and it is such a beautiful place that I love to get outdoors and make the most of it.

What was your most embarrassing moment? In a club in London, after a few wines, I bumped into and apologised to my own reflection in a mirror – three times.

What is your greatest achievement? My fantastic children, Olivia and Alistair.

Sum up Edinburgh in three words. Beautiful, diverse, fun.
