Ten Questions: Roy Rogers

ROY ROGERS, 39, is the artistic director at Saks Hairdressing on Jeffrey Street

What is your earliest memory of Edinburgh? The Christmas tree at Jenners and thinking it looked magical.

What are your memories of school? I went to Pumpherston Primary School. I remember our headmaster, Mr MacDonald, teaching us how to pretend we had cut our finger off.

Where is your favourite place in Edinburgh and why? I absolutely love going to the Dome on George Street for lunch. The building is simply beautiful and the level of service is amazing. However, I do have to admit, I love being at work.

What are the best things about Edinburgh? The architecture is beautiful and I especially love the Royal Mile and Stockbridge. Edinburgh has friendly people, great restaurants, shops, bars and everything is accessible.

What would you change about the city? I would take off the bamboo from the Parliament building.

Describe a perfect Edinburgh day/night out. It would have to be a sunny day with friends that are happy to pretend being tourists. We would start with breakfast at Tigerlily, followed by a matinee Fringe show, a little people-watching in Princes Street Gardens, dinner at the Dome and another Fringe show. We would finish by dancing the night away at the Opal Lounge.

Which sports interest you? Naked mud wrestling.

What was your most embarrassing moment? Being on stage at the Playhouse at the sing-a-long Sound of Music show while dressed as a snow flake. We had a competition at work to dress up, which I was determined to win. I had know idea I would end up on stage though.

What is your greatest achievement? Seeing my hairdressing work regularly published in magazines on both a local and international level.

Sum up Edinburgh in three words. Shaken, not stirred.
