Ten Questions: Pam Blyth of the Playhouse
Pam Blyth, 37, from Ormiston, East Lothian, is a marketing manager at the Playhouse theatre
What is your earliest memory of Edinburgh? My mum and auntie taking me, my sister and brother to Edinburgh Zoo. It was our first big trip to the zoo and it was just before my auntie emigrated to Australia in 1975.
What are your memories of school? I loved primary school. It was in Pencaitland and just a great village school. There was always lots of fun, sport and activities, but I distinctly remember my art teacher Mrs McVittie, who came to us once a week from the local high school (Ross High in Tranent). I was delighted when I moved up to the Ross and she remained as my art teacher.
Where is your favourite place in Edinburgh and why? I have lots of favourite places and it depends on the time of year. Arthur's Seat and Calton Hill because of the views, summer gigs on the Castle Esplanade, The Mound and Royal Mile during the festivals – I could go on and on.
What are the best things about Edinburgh? It's everything you would want in a city, yet there's something very open, green and fresh about it.
What would you change about the city? The number of unattractive buildings being flung up around the city and ruining its beautiful landscape. You only have to stand in Holyrood Park and face in the direction of Meadowbank to see that ugly "green" block of flats. I remember being really angry at the time that was built.
Describe a perfect Edinburgh day/night out. A guaranteed good night is always to be had at Hepburn Heights. The chef there always serves up the best grub.
Which sports interest you? I like to watch rugby, moto gp racing, cycling and boxing.
What was your most embarrassing moment? Walking up to the St James Centre from the Playhouse with my skirt tucked into my underwear. Actually, that wasn't me, it was my boss, but it was probably her most embarrassing moment.
What is your greatest achievement? Probably learning to ride a motorbike. I don't drive a car so I was very much starting from scratch.
Sum up Edinburgh in three words. Historic, beautiful, gem.
