Ten Questions: Jamie Sutherland
JAMIE SUTHERLAND, 33, is the owner of Leith Framing Studio on Tennant Street. He lives on Boswall Terrace.
What is your earliest memory of Edinburgh? I remember being a toddler and getting dragged all round the shops in town, till mum took us into my favourite shop, Jenners' toy department.
What are your memories of school? I went to Trinity Academy – it was a fantastic school with a great mix of children, although I have to admit I wasn't a big fan of school and tended to dose off a lot. I'm a very hands-on person, I like to get stuck into physical work, so my favourite class was craft and design.
Where is your favourite place in Edinburgh and why? It has to be the Royal Park and Arthur's Seat, I enjoy flying my power kite and from time to time taking a walk up to the top for the fantastic view.
What are the best things about Edinburgh? I'm a massive fan of the Edinburgh Festival and Fringe. It never ceases to amaze me how a relatively small city can hold so many people, and the city is just buzzing with excitement.
What would you change about the city? I would have the building regulations tightened. I'm a sucker for the traditional buildings and feel that some of the new builds are built to a poor standard.
Describe a perfect Edinburgh day/night out. During the summer I'd get some friends together and head for the Meadows Festival where we could relax with a few beers and watch some of the bands, then have a BBQ and maybe some frisbee action before getting ready to head out for a bit of pubbing and clubbing.
Which sports interest you? I'm not a big fan of watching sports, but love snowboarding.
What was your most embarrassing moment? I was showing off on my wee 100cc motorcycle, acting all cool (I was only 17), so while riding down Leith Walk I never noticed the car in front stopping at a red light until it was too late and rode straight into the back, then slid up the tank, hurting a certain man part, before catching my leg on the horn.
What is your greatest achievement? My business. I set up Marchmont Gallery four years ago and it has grown from strength to strength.
Sum up Edinburgh in three words. Eclectically unique, gorgeous.
