Ten Questions: Ewan Irvine

EWAN IRVINE, 38, of Corstorphine, is a clairvoyant medium, who is taking part in Mary King's Ghostfest

What is your earliest memory of Edinburgh? I remember visiting Santa and the Christmas display at the Goldbergs department store in Tollcross. Sadly, they don't do displays like those any more. I also remember passing the neon sculpture that used to sit at Picardy Place roundabout every weekend on the way to my grandparents.

What are your memories of school? I went to Gylemuir Primary School in Edinburgh and I remember the annual visits to the seaside and the farm just before the summer holidays. Apart from that I was never a big fan of school days.

Where is your favourite place in Edinburgh and why? It has to be the Royal Mile. There are so many spooky locations. In summer, when we have one, the Royal Mile is the perfect place to sit outside and enjoy a coffee at one of the many cafes.

What are the best things about Edinburgh? It has a rich and turbulent history and so it is no wonder that it has been voted as one of the spookiest places in the world – as well as one of the nicest. I also think the Edinburgh Festival is one of the city's greatest assets.

What would you change about the city? I'd lower the cost of parking. I would also pedestrianise Princes Street completely and introduce covered outdoor cafes where people could sit and enjoy street entertainment.

Describe a perfect Edinburgh day/night out. My day would be spent investigating one of Edinburgh's haunted locations. When we'd enjoyed a successful day, we'd all retire to one of the city's many good restaurants and enjoy a bite to eat.

Which sports interest you? I'm really not interested in sport, although I do try to keep fit at my local health club.

What was your most embarrassing moment? I am scared of heights and snakes so my most embarrassing moment was trekking through the Jordanian desert where I was confronted with a cliff face and then a snake. I cried.

What is your greatest achievement? It has to be helping people around Scotland and the UK through my gift of clairvoyance.

Sum up Edinburgh in three words. Spooky, friendly, historic.
