Ten Questions
JO BERCHARD, 36, is a facial and massage therapist at DollyLeo Apothecary. She lives in Cramond
What is your earliest memory of Edinburgh? Driving down for a visit with a bunch of friends from Aberdeen. I had just passed my driving test and was pretty nervous about the drive so, to celebrate our safe arrival, we partied the night away at the Citrus Club. It was the start of my love affair with Edinburgh's nightlife.
What are your memories of school? I started off my education at an all-girls school so I was thrilled when I was allowed to move to a co-ed school in Aberdeen called Harlaw Academy. I loved having guys to have a bit of banter with during class – though my grades did go downhill.
Where is your favourite place in Edinburgh and why? I absolutely love Stockbridge. I am lucky enough to work there and am always nipping out at lunchtime to pick up a bargain at one of the many fabulous charity shops.
What are the best things about Edinburgh? The nightlife, history and the people. Not many cities have half as much to offer.
What would you change about the city? I think Princes Street could do with a bit of tender loving care. Even without all the tram works, it is still a bit of an eyesore.
Describe a perfect Edinburgh day/night out. I'd start with lunch at the Bon Vivant on Thistle Street. I would then indulge myself with a serious pamper session at DollyLeo. The next stop would be Monteiths on the Royal Mile before moving on to Bramble on Queen Street for cocktails. I would finish off with a boogie session at the infamous Motherfunk night!
Which sports interest you? I love watching Formula One and I have been know to play a bit of tennis in my spare time.
What was your most embarrassing moment? Just the other week when I was walking back to the car from work. I walked for a good 15 minutes with my dress stuffed into my tights before someone finally had the courage to tell me. I wondered why people passing appeared to be laughing!
What is your greatest achievement? I was very proud when I won the award from the Lothian School of Massage for the Most Outstanding Graduate in Swedish massage in 2000.
Describe Edinburgh in three words. Eclectic, stylish, friendly.
