Tell the truth

Have your say

Police officers are allowed “to withhold operational statements if they could later incriminate themselves in cases where there is a criminal complaint” (Chris Marshall, Perspective, 17 June, in reference to the death in custody of Sheku Bayoh).

But in that eventuality, they would be bound under oath to tell “the truth” etc. So could the SNP explain why they cannot merely tell the truth now, as they would be obliged to do in England?

Why so often do public “servants” of all types resist just telling the truth immediately – particularly as it usually comes out in the end, to their detriment and
discredit?
