Teenage boy stops knife robber with metal bar
A BRAVE teenage shop assistant thwarted a knife-wielding thug from robbing his uncle's sweetie shop by hitting him with a metal bar.
Ikky Arishad told how the masked armed robber tried to stab him after he refused to hand over the day's takings on Thursday night at the small Sweet Service convenience store on Uphall Station Road in Pumpherston, West Lothian.
The 17-year-old, who is from Stoke-on-Trent, has been in Scotland since Monday on holiday visiting family and was only helping his uncle out in the shop.
The suspect entered the store at around 9.30pm wearing a grey/black camouflaged jacket, which had a mask attached to the hood with goggles on it, over his head.
The suspect is described as 15 years old, 5ft 10in, slim build, wearing the jacket and black tracksuit bottoms.
Nothing was stolen during the incident and only the suspect was injured.
Police are appealing for anyone with information on the attempted robbery to contact 01506 431200, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
