Teacher charged with schoolgirl abduction

Teacher Jeremy Forrest was last night charged with child abduction after fleeing the country with 15-year-old Megan Stammers last month, Sussex Police said.

The 30-year-old married amateur musician, from Ringmer, near Lewes, East Sussex, went on the run with Megan, his pupil at a school in Eastbourne, on 20 September.

The maths teacher was extradited to the UK yesterday from France, where the pair was found eight days after their disappearance, and is due to appear at Eastbourne Magistrates’ Court today.

Their disappearance triggered a major manhunt.
