Tax cut call to help construction firms
SCOTTISH business leaders have called for a tax cut to help the recovery of the construction industry.
The Scottish Chambers of Commerce, Federation of Small Businesses Scotland and the Scottish Council for Development and Industry want to see VAT on repair and maintenance work cut by 5 per cent included in the Chancellor's emergency Budget.
They said the move would safeguard jobs and skills in the building trade by making renovation more affordable and causing a surge in demand.
A paper and online petition has already collected more than 6,000 names. The campaign has received the support of the Scottish Government and the Scottish Building Federation.
