Talks held to stop attacks on Capital

EXPERTS in business resilience and national security were set to meet in Edinburgh today to discuss how to keep the city safe from attack.

Invited speakers included Richard Barnes, the deputy mayor of London, who was expected to talk about community safety, and Don Randall MBE, head of security at the Bank of England, who was due to discuss the "harmonisation of private and public sector agencies".

Other speakers were due to include Professor Hugh Goddard, director of the HRH Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Centre at the University of Edinburgh, and Richard Cockbain from the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency.

Around 75 people were due to attend the event at the Standard Life headquarters on Lothian Road as part of Edinburgh Community Resilience Week.

Superintendent Donnie MacKinnon, city centre commander at Lothian and Border's Police, said: "We are delighted to host this event which has attracted such a high calibre of speakers. It continues to demonstrate our commitment to deliver community safety on a partnership level."
