Talks on plan to ease town parking woe

A BLUEPRINT for easing Linlithgow's parking shortage is set to be unveiled at a public meeting on Saturday.

If the plans get backing, work could start within the next financial year and be in place around 12 months after that.

Among the suggestions are a new 140-space car park near Linlithgow Cricket Club, more nose-in parking on the High Street, near Norman Cummings' shop, more spaces outside the Imperial Cancer Research shop and an extra 30 spaces at the St Ninian's car park.

Linlithgow Community Council is hosting the meeting in the Academy Theatre. The proposals will be outlined by Graeme Malcolm, West Lothian Council's transportation manager, and the public will be invited to ask questions and make give their views.

It is hoped all three local councillors, as well as police and traffic wardens will be on hand to study the proposals.

The proposals, if approved, would provide nearly 200 extra free spaces in the town.

Community council convener Isabel Smith said: "We want input from the public to hear their preferences. A lot of our recommendations look as if they have been taken on board. It is very positive.''
