Talk of the Town: Loughton is victim of a celebrity hijack

Wikileaks may have been in the news this week for its documents revealing details of the war in Afghanistan, but one Edinburgh Big Brother star found his own Wiki information to be an eye-opener for the wrong reasons.

John Loughton, who won the Celebrity Hijack version of the reality show, had his Wikipedia page hijacked by a joker who chipped in personal details and knocked the youth campaign the former Scottish Youth Parliament head is trying to promote.

John said: "It was a bit personal. They seemed to be taking the pee a bit out of my dialogue and the way the media portrays youngsters. I was a bit bemused and flattered that whoever it was would update my page. They're clearly very bored."

Streaming off the shelves

THEY were a kitchen icon of the 1970s and 1980s, which quickly became a national favourite with children and adults alike.

Now the SodaStream is back on the shelves of Edinburgh's John Lewis department store.

It was keen to point out SodaStream's "sleek makeover" to bring it up to date for 2010, with a range of modern designs and colours such as chrome and vibrant red, as well as "classic" white.

The price has also been brought up to date, with the drinks maker costing 54.99.

That's a blooming relief

A LONG row of flowers outside the McEwan's Alehouse in Clerk Street stirred up concerns that tragedy had befallen the popular watering hole.

One early morning commuter passing the pub yesterday alerted the Evening News to the floral tributes gathering outside.

Thankfully no misfortune had befallen the bar's regulars or staff, despite the apparent outpouring of sympathy on its front doorstep.

Instead, a painter had taken down the pub's collection of hanging baskets from its frontage and arranged them respectfully on the pavement before applying a fresh coat of paint to the bar.

Like father, like daughter

HE'S not the usual Winehouse to be spotted out on the town, but Mitch Winehouse, father of troubled singer Amy, will be hanging out in jazz bars for the next few weeks as he tries his hand at a musical career.

Perhaps at more upmarket venues - and with less booze than at his daughter's gigs - Mitch starts the tour at Edinburgh's The Living Room piano bar, on George Street.

He'll be playing songs from debut album Rush of Love, including cover tracks Please Be Kind and How Insensitive. The audience may wonder whether the song selections are based on his daughter's relationship with the tabloids.
