Take-off for new attractions at Museum of Flight
A £2 MILLION expansion of Scotland's major flight visitor attraction is set to be unveiled within weeks – the first phase of a £12 million overhaul of the site.
Two major exhibitions have been created for the National Museum of Flight, the East Lothian attraction best known for being home to Concorde, in former wartime workshops not previously open to the public. Flight simulators, interactive displays, historical objects and vehicles, as well as a children's assault course are all being added to the museum.
Bosses at National Museums Scotland, which runs the attraction, revealed that a further 10 million worth of improvements are planned over the next few years, including overhauling ageing aircraft hangars dotted around the site.
One of the new exhibitions, Fortunes of War, will tell the story of East Fortune and the people who worked there during the two world wars.
The other will lift the lid on the secrets of flight and its great pioneers.
The Scottish Government has provided 1.2 million to help pay for the latest phase of improvements, which open to the public on 10 April.
