T in the Park review: Frightened Rabbit

THE roar that greets Frightened Rabbit's walk onto the King Tut's stage has the tingle of a T in the Park moment.

Jam-packed with 'Frabbit' devotees, the time is right for the Selkirk quintet to make its long-anticipated breakthrough into the mainstream.

Rustling through a goldmine of uptempo numbers from their three-album catalogue, vocalist Scott Hutchison's every line is boomeranged back to him with amplified rapture.

This is Frightened Rabbit at their heart-lifting best. Feeding off the frenzied atmosphere, they instil boisterous zest into the indie-pop blustering of 'Old Old Fashioned' and 'My Backwards Walk'.

Despite the production-saturated disappointment of this year's The Winter of Mixed Drinks, tracks like 'Swim Until You Can't See Land' and 'Nothing Like You' surge out as perfect live fodder; each charged with ebullient guitars and Hutchinson's unmistakable brogue.

Visibly moved by the crowd's reception, the likable frontman cuts a humbled figure who can barely comprehend the rapture that greets the last blasts of 'Keep Yourself Warm'.

If this proves to be a T in the Park moment, then Frightened Rabbit have seized it with style.
