Swimmer hurt as glass panel falls into pool

A MAN who was swimming in a Victorian pool has been struck by a panel of glass that fell from the roof of the building.

The incident took place at Warrender Swim Centre in Marchmont on Thursday at around 3pm.

Edinburgh Leisure, which runs the swimming pool, said a full investigation was under way.

There were 12 people in the pool when the panel fell from the glass roof, striking and injuring the man, who is in his twenties.

The city council said the man suffered injuries to his arm.

The pool was immediately closed and the remainder of the centre, including the gym, shut within an hour of the incident. All swimming lessons have been cancelled and it is not yet known when the centre will reopen.

A spokeswoman for Edinburgh Leisure said: "We have encountered a glazing fault at Warrender Swim Centre which has resulted in the closure of the pool.

"We are currently investigating the cause of the fault and we will reopen the centre as quickly as possible."
