Swayze club members offer support
THE Dalkeith-based president of the Official Patrick Swayze International Fan Club today said her members were "very distressed" at the actor's pancreatic cancer diagnosis.
Meanwhile, reports that the 55-year-old star has only five weeks to live were dismissed by Swayze's doctors.
Margaret Howden, who coordinates the fan club from her Midlothian home, sent her best wishes to Swayze and his wife Lisa Niemi.
She added: "Thank you to everyone who has sent fantastic messages of support to Patrick through the fan club and for all the lovely messages on our guestbook. Get well soon Patrick!"
Dr George Fisher said the star of Dirty Dancing and Ghost was still working and was responding well to treatment.
He said: "Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far.
"All of the reports stating the timeframe of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue."
A spokesperson for Swayze added: "The support and concern he has received from the public is deeply appreciated by Patrick and his family."
